Key Responsibilities
As a Care Aide at Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

• Work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or designated healthcare professional to assist in client care delivery.
• Follow established care plans to provide personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, and oral hygiene.
• Perform nursing care duties as applicable.
• Respond promptly to call bells/alarms and assist clients as needed.
• Observe and monitor clients’ progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, reporting and recording significant observations.
• Assist with client transfers and transportation using mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients and staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience
• Minimum Grade 10 education (including English 10).
• Graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.

Knowledge & Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with others.
• Physical capability to perform lifting, transferring, and assisting patients.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
• Proficiency in using related healthcare equipment (e.g., Patient Care Information Systems).

Conditions of Employment

• Successful completion of a Criminal Records Review Check.
• Compliance with Ministry of Health vaccination policies.
• Work hours may include weekends, evenings, and holidays based on operational needs.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced long-term care and healthcare facility.

• Requires physical endurance, including frequent standing, lifting, and assisting patients.
