Key Responsibilities

Surface Preparation:
• Prepare, clean, and sand surfaces to be painted to ensure smooth, professional finish
• Remove old paint, wallpaper, and finishes using scrapers, sanders, and chemicals
• Repair cracks and holes in walls, ceilings, and other surfaces
• Fill imperfections with putty, plaster, or filler compounds
• Apply primer and sealers to prepared surfaces
• Protect floors, furniture, and fixtures with drop cloths and masking materials
• Ensure surfaces are completely clean, dry, and ready for finishing
• Sand between coats for optimal smoothness and adhesion

Paint Mixing and Application:
• Mix paint to desired colour and texture according to specifications
• Match colours accurately using tinting systems and colour charts
• Test paint samples to ensure correct colour match
• Thin or condition paint for proper application consistency
• Apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces
• Use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment for professional application
• Apply multiple coats ensuring even coverage and smooth finish
• Achieve consistent colour and texture throughout project

Wallpaper and Decorative Finishes:
• Measure, cut, and apply wallpaper and other fabric to walls
• Prepare walls for wallpaper installation ensuring proper adhesion
• Match patterns and seams for seamless appearance
• Apply decorative finishes and specialty coatings
• Create texture effects and faux finishes when required
• Install borders, trim, and accent features

Client Consultation and Advisory:
• Advise consumers on colours and choice of wall coverings
• Provide professional recommendations on paint types and finishes
• Suggest colour schemes and design options
• Explain benefits of different products and application methods
• Help clients make informed decisions about finishes
• Offer expert guidance on maintenance and durability

Safety and Access Equipment:
• Erect scaffolding and swing stages safely and securely
• Attach rigging and safety equipment according to regulations
• Work safely at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts
• Conduct safety inspections of equipment before use
• Follow fall protection protocols and use proper PPE
• Ensure work area is safe for workers and occupants
• Maintain clean, organized, hazard-free job sites

Estimation and Project Planning:
• Estimate costs and materials for painting projects
• Calculate paint quantities and supplies needed
• Provide accurate quotes for labour and materials
• Plan work sequences for efficient project completion
• Track material usage and minimize waste
• Communicate with project managers about timeline and resources

Quality Control and Finishing:
• Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met
• Touch up and correct any imperfections
• Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment
• Ensure customer satisfaction with finished product
• Maintain high standards of craftsmanship on all projects
• Take pride in delivering professional, durable finishes
