Job Overview
Pioneer Construction Inc. is looking for a safety-focused, reliable Short Haul Truck Driver to support our construction and aggregate operations in and around Dubreuilville, Ontario. In this role, you will transport materials and equipment between job sites, plants, and yards using straight or articulated trucks. You will be trusted to operate company vehicles safely, complete thorough inspections, and deliver loads on time while providing professional service to internal and external customers. Education

• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
• Equivalent education and/or experience

Experience

• Experience is an asset; new or less-experienced drivers will be considered if they hold the required licences and demonstrate a strong safety mindset
• Any experience operating straight trucks, dump trucks, or tractor-trailers in construction, aggregate, or short-haul environments is an advantage

Work Setting

• Various locations in and around Dubreuilville, ON
• Short-haul routes between job sites, quarries, plants, and yards
• Primarily local/regional work with drivers generally returning home daily
• Outdoor construction and industrial environments, including gravel roads and remote job sites

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials (e.g., aggregates, construction materials, equipment) between specified locations
• Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions (traffic, weather, road closures) using GPS, onboard computer equipment, or other navigation devices to optimize fuel consumption and reduce carbon emissions
• Load and unload goods safely, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement of cargo in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
• Perform thorough pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and required equipment, documenting findings and reporting defects promptly
• Oversee all aspects of the vehicle, including tires, lights, brakes, fluids, and safety equipment, and coordinate with maintenance personnel for repairs or servicing
• Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels, cleaning the vehicle, and monitoring minor wear and tear
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including logbooks, inspection reports, bills of lading, and delivery records, as required by company policy and applicable regulations
• Demonstrate professionalism in customer service when interacting with clients, site personnel, and the public, representing Pioneer Construction Inc. in a positive and respectful manner
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, as well as provincial and federal transportation regulations (including Hours of Service and cargo securement standards)
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and site foremen regarding schedules, delays, issues, or safety concerns
• Assist with tarping, chaining, or other load securement tasks as required for specific loads
• Adhere to environmental best practices when fueling, idling, and operating equipment to minimize environmental impact
• Support other operational tasks as required, depending on workload and project demands

Credentials (Certificates, Licences, Memberships, Courses)

• Valid Class 3/3F/DF Licence (trailer truck, vehicles with more than 3 axles)
• Clean or acceptable driving record/driver’s abstract (may be required as part of the hiring process)
• Ability to meet company and regulatory medical and fitness standards for commercial drivers
• Additional safety certifications such as WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, or construction safety training are assets

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

• Fast-paced environment with changing priorities based on job site and project needs
• Work under pressure to meet delivery schedules and project timelines
• Attention to detail required for safety checks, documentation, and route planning
• Extended periods of sitting while driving, with frequent climbing in and out of the cab
• Handling moderate to heavy loads during loading/unloading and securing cargo (up to approximately 23 kg / 50 lbs.)
• Exposure to varying weather conditions typical of Northern Ontario (heat, cold, rain, snow) and dusty or noisy job sites
• Ability to remain alert, focused, and safety-conscious throughout the shift
