Job Overview
A caring family in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a dedicated Family Caregiver to provide in‑home support to an elderly person and/or a person with a disability. You will play a key role in helping the client maintain dignity, comfort, and as much independence as possible by assisting with personal care, medications, exercise, meal preparation, and light housekeeping. This position starts as part time with a clear path to full-time hours as trust and needs grow. It is ideal for someone who is patient, reliable, and genuinely committed to supporting vulnerable individuals in a respectful, home-based setting.

Education
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
- Equivalent education and/or experience
Experience
- 1 to less than 7 months of relevant caregiving experience (e.g., family caregiver, home support worker, personal support worker assistant, or similar)
- Employer will provide guidance on client-specific routines, care plans, and preferences
Work Site Environment
- Non-smoking private home
Work Setting
- Work in employer’s/client’s home in Calgary, AB
- One-on-one support in a household environment
- May involve occasional accompaniment outside the home (e.g., short walks, appointments), as directed by the family
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Administer bedside and personal care, including assistance with positioning, mobility, and comfort measures as instructed
- Administer medications according to schedules and instructions provided by the family and/or healthcare professionals (e.g., oral medications, reminders)
- Assist clients with bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, and other aspects of personal hygiene while maintaining dignity and privacy
- Change non-sterile dressings for minor wounds or skin issues as instructed, following hygiene and safety practices
- Assist in regular exercise routines such as walks, gentle stretching, or prescribed exercises, in accordance with the client’s abilities and care plan
- Feed or assist in feeding clients, including preparation of appropriate textures and monitoring intake as necessary
- Plan and prepare nutritious, balanced meals and snacks that meet any dietary restrictions or therapeutic diet requirements
- Cook daily meals and, where requested, prepare food in advance for later consumption
- Launder clothing and household linens; dry, fold, and store items neatly
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the client’s care and common areas (e.g., tidying rooms, washing dishes, wiping surfaces)
- Provide personal care according to the established routines and any written care plans from healthcare professionals
- Observe and report changes in the client’s physical or emotional condition (e.g., mobility, appetite, mood, pain) to the family promptly
- Support the client’s emotional well-being by offering patience, encouragement, and respectful communication
- Help maintain a safe home environment, including reducing tripping hazards and ensuring clear pathways for mobility aids
- Follow all instructions from the family and any professionals involved in the client’s care
Credentials (Certificates, Licences, Memberships, Courses)
- CPR Certificate required or willingness to obtain prior to or shortly after hiring
- First Aid training is an asset
- Any caregiver, personal support worker (PSW), or health aide coursework is considered a strong asset but not mandatory

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift
- Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling, especially when assisting with personal care, dressing, and housekeeping tasks
- Physically demanding at times, including handling heavy loads and assisting with transfers or repositioning
- Weight handling up to 45 kg (100 lbs) with proper body mechanics and/or assistive devices as appropriate
- Repetitive tasks associated with care routines, meal preparation, and housekeeping
- Standing and walking for extended periods when supporting exercise, personal care, or household tasks
- Work under pressure at times, particularly when managing multiple tasks or responding to changes in the client’s condition
