Job Overview
Join a welcoming private household in Thornhill as a Home Support Worker, providing person-centred care and daily living assistance to an adult client. This role is ideal for a trained Personal Support Worker who values dignity, safety, and companionship. You will work directly in the client’s home, helping them remain as independent and comfortable as possible. - College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year
or - Equivalent experience
Experience
- 1 year to less than 2 years in home support, caregiving, or a related healthcare role
Credentials (Certificates, licences, memberships, courses)
- Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate or equivalent recognized training
Work Site Environment
- Non-smoking home
Work Setting
- Work in employer’s/client’s home (private residence)
- Staff accommodation provided (if needed and agreed upon)
- Willing to relocate to Thornhill, ON
- Relocation costs not covered by employer

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Administer bedside and personal care in a safe, respectful manner
- Administer medications according to instructions and maintain basic records
- Assist client with bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and other aspects of personal hygiene
- Assist in regular exercise (e.g., walks, light mobility activities) as appropriate and safe
- Change non-sterile dressings and assist with basic skin care, following care plans
- Feed or assist in feeding, ensuring dignity and comfort at all times
- Plan therapeutic diets and menus based on dietary restrictions and preferences
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks
- Shop for food and household supplies as required
- Launder clothing and household linens
- Mend clothing and linens as needed
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a clean, safe environment
- Provide companionship, conversation, and emotional support to reduce isolation
- Provide personal care with sensitivity to cultural background, preferences, and privacy
- Observe and report any changes in the client’s condition, behaviour, or needs to the employer or family
- Follow established care plans, safety protocols, and emergency procedures
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Fast-paced environment with changing care needs
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift
- Bending, crouching, and kneeling as needed for personal care tasks
- Handling heavy loads and assisting with transfers or mobility
- Physically demanding at times (supporting or repositioning client)
- Standing for extended periods
- Walking indoors and outdoors (e.g., during exercise or outings)
- Ability to work under pressure while staying calm and focused
- Weight handling: Between 61 and 80 kg (133–176 lbs), when assisting or supporting client (using safe techniques)
