As a Caregiver with Assisting Hands Home Care in Ottawa, ON, you will play an integral role in ensuring the well-being, independence, and dignity of clients in their homes. Your work will involve assisting clients with daily activities, providing emotional support, and fostering a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Personal Care: Assist clients with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting to promote hygiene and comfort.
• Mobility Support: Aid clients with mobility, including transfers and the use of assistive devices.
• Nutritional Support: Prepare meals and ensure clients maintain a balanced diet.
• Medication Assistance: Support clients in adhering to medication schedules (training provided).
• Household Assistance: Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and other domestic tasks.
• Companionship: Provide emotional support through meaningful conversations and activities.
• Health Monitoring: Observe and document changes in clients’ health and report to supervisors.
• Transportation: Arrange or provide transportation for medical appointments and errands if needed.
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, following established protocols.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) or equivalent training preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in caregiving, healthcare, or related fields is an asset but not required.

Skills:

• Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to caregiving.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and procedures (training provided).

Certifications:

• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Check or Criminal Background Check.
• Up-to-date vaccinations, including COVID-19 and influenza.
• Proof of TB clearance (negative test or chest X-ray as per provincial regulations).
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.

Working Conditions

• Physical demands may include lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items up to 20 lbs.
• Flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on client needs.
