Job Overview
A caring family in Surrey, BC is seeking a warm, responsible Child Care Provider to look after their young children in the family home. You will be trusted with daily routines, personal care, feeding, playtime, and light housekeeping related to the children, as well as full responsibility for the household when the parents are away. This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys working with infants and young children, is patient and organized, and wants a long-term, full-time childcare role in Canada.
Languages: English
Education
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
- Equivalent education and/or experience
Experience
- 1 to less than 7 months of recent, hands-on childcare experience (nanny, babysitter, daycare helper, teacher’s assistant, or similar)
- Experience caring for infants and toddlers is a strong asset
Work Setting
- Employer’s private home in Surrey, BC
- Home-based childcare environment following the parents’ routines, culture, and house rules
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Supervise and care for children at all times while on duty, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Change diapers regularly and as needed, maintaining proper hygiene and comfort for infants and toddlers
- Follow the parents’ lead with toilet training, using their preferred methods and routines
- Sterilize bottles, prepare formulas, and feed infants according to established schedules and instructions
- Bathe, dress, and feed infants and children, supporting age-appropriate independence where possible
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for the children, considering any dietary needs or family preferences
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home by monitoring children’s activities and identifying/removing hazards
- Tend to the emotional well-being of children by offering comfort, positive attention, and encouragement
- Keep basic records of children’s daily activities and health information (e.g., meals, naps, moods, any incidents or symptoms) to share with the parents
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the children, such as tidying toys, washing dishes used for children’s meals, and keeping play and sleep areas organized
- Assume full responsibility for the household in the absence of the parents, ensuring routines are followed and the children’s needs are fully met
- Support early learning through age-appropriate games, reading, songs, and simple educational activities as requested by the parents
- Follow any specific care plans or instructions provided by the parents or healthcare professionals
Additional Information – Security and Safety
- Criminal record check required or willingness to obtain prior to starting employment
- References from previous childcare or employment roles are an asset
- Respect for family privacy and confidentiality is essential
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, and playing with children throughout the day
- Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying infants, young children, and items such as diaper bags, toys, and groceries
- Handling weights up to approximately 13.5 kg (30 lbs)
- Repetitive tasks such as lifting, diaper changing, and tidying play areas
- Need for sustained attention and quick responses while supervising active children
- Occasional emotionally demanding situations (e.g., tantrums, sibling conflicts, illness) requiring patience and calm

- Efficient interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly and kindly with both children and adults
- Team player who works collaboratively with parents to maintain consistent routines and rules
