Job Overview
AVE Farms Ltd. is hiring a Hog Farm Supervisor to support and coordinate day-to-day hog and pig farming operations in Picture Butte, Alberta. This role is ideal for a practical, hands-on leader who can supervise a small team, maintain strong animal welfare and production standards, and ensure strict farm safety and biosecurity procedures are followed. You will oversee feeding programs, monitor and treat animal health issues, perform piglet processing tasks, support breeding programs, keep accurate records, and operate key barn systems and equipment. If you are organized, communicate clearly, and thrive in a fast-paced barn environment with tight timelines, this is a solid long-term opportunity with LMIA support available for eligible international candidates.

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience
- 1 year to less than 2 years of relevant experience in hog/pig farming, swine production, or livestock supervision
Work Site Environment
- Hog and pig farming and hog management setting
- Hot, noisy conditions with strong odours typical of swine barns

Equipment and Machinery Experience (Assets)
- Automated manure handling or storage system
- Feeding and watering system
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Handle animals safely and humanely and support calm movement and daily care routines
- Monitor animal health and behaviour, identify concerns early, and report/escalate appropriately
- Treat livestock health issues as directed and within farm protocols
- Perform pig littering and piglet processing activities such as clipping needle teeth, docking tails, administering iron and other medication(s), identification of piglets, and castration
- Mark livestock as proof of ownership as required by farm procedures
- Formulate feeding program and ensure feeding routines are followed to support growth and performance
- Carry out pasture or pen breeding programs and supervise breeding and other livestock-related programs
- Select livestock for sale and support sorting and preparation according to farm standards
- Maintain livestock performance records and maintain quality control and production records with accuracy and consistency
- Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and biosecurity procedures
- Ensure farm safety and biosecurity procedures are followed by all workers and visitors
- Coordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and labourers, assigning tasks and monitoring completion
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment and ensure barn systems are functioning correctly
- Perform general farm duties and support the operation during peak workload periods

- Tight deadlines and time-sensitive routines (farrowing, treatments, feeding schedules)
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day
- Strong attention to detail required for piglet processing, medication routines, and record keeping
