Job Overview
Alberta Avenue Medical Clinic is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Internal Medicine Specialist to join our growing multidisciplinary team in Edmonton, AB. This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who is passionate about comprehensive, evidence-based care and who values continuity, collaboration, and a strong connection with the community. You will manage a diverse and complex patient panel, provide expert consultative services to family physicians and other specialists, and help shape our clinic’s internal medicine program as we continue to expand.   • Completion of residency training in Internal Medicine (or equivalent)

Experience

  • 2 years to less than 3 years of independent clinical experience in Internal Medicine (post-training), or a combination of residency and independent practice experience that demonstrates strong clinical competence

Work Setting

  • Private practice within a community-based clinic
  • Outpatient clinic-based practice with the potential for inpatient or hospital affiliation, depending on qualifications and local arrangements
  • Modern, well-equipped facility with access to electronic medical records and diagnostic services (details to be discussed during interview)

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders across a broad spectrum of adult internal medicine conditions
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, including detailed histories, physical examinations, and review of investigations
  • Prescribe appropriate medication and treatment plans in accordance with current clinical guidelines and best practices
  • Treat acute and chronic diseases and physiological disorders, including complex multi-morbidity cases
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory tests, imaging (X-rays, ultrasound, CT/MRI through referral), and other diagnostic procedures
  • Refer patients for surgery and to other specialists when clinically indicated, and coordinate care as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Act as a consultant to family physicians and other healthcare providers, offering expert opinions and shared-care management
  • Study and remain current on the nature, causes, and development of diseases, including structural and functional changes caused by disease, and apply this knowledge in daily clinical practice
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, and preventive care
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in the electronic medical record system
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and guideline implementation as appropriate
  • Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards, including privacy, informed consent, and safe prescribing practices
  • Optionally participate in teaching, supervision, or mentoring of medical trainees or allied health professionals (if applicable and desired)

Credentials (Certificates, Licences, Memberships, Courses)

  • Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Certification in Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) or recognized equivalent training and certification, or eligibility to obtain such certification, as required by provincial regulations
  • Good standing with all relevant regulatory bodies and professional organizations
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification are strong assets (or willingness to obtain)

Experience and Specialization

  • Specialization in clinical medicine with a focus on Internal Medicine
  • Experience managing complex chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, COPD, chronic kidney disease, rheumatologic conditions)
  • Experience in outpatient consultative internal medicine; experience with inpatient care is an asset
  • Subspecialty interest or additional training (e.g., cardiology, respirology, nephrology, endocrinology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, geriatrics) is considered an asset but not required
