We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Health Care Social Worker to join our Recovery Support Centre – Mental Health & Addictions team at Western Zone, Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Recovery Support Services, the Social Worker will work within a multi-disciplinary team and provide clinical services, including:

  • Screening, assessment, and individual counselling.
  • Treatment planning and discharge planning.
  • Crisis intervention and group programming.
  • Case management, navigation, and consultation.
  • The Social Worker must be highly skilled in using harm reduction, recovery models, and psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) approaches to support individuals effectively.

Qualifications & Requirements
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
  • Certification: Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work (NSCSW).
  • Experience: At least two years of clinical experience (preferably working with individuals with substance use/gambling concerns and/or mental health issues).

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of community resources and development methods.
  • Proficiency in suicide risk assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships within healthcare and the broader community.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction strategies, brief intervention methods, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with stages of change theory and social determinants of health.
  • Cultural sensitivity and competency.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively in care planning and case management.
  • Proficiency in French or other languages is an asset.

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Permanent, full-time position (75 hours bi-weekly).
  • Shifts may include days, nights, and weekends.
  • Travel to various sites may be required.

Compensation & Benefits
