Required Credentials and Certifications

• Specialty residency training in Internal Medicine completed

• Royal College certification in Internal Medicine (FRCPC) or equivalent
• Board certification from ABIM or equivalent international certification

• Current ACLS, BLS, and other required certifications

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment:
• Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders in adult patients
• Examine patients’ health condition to identify diseases and injuries accurately
• Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions
• Treat diseases and physiological disorders using evidence-based medicine
• Manage patients with complex, multi-system medical conditions
• Provide continuity of care for chronic disease management
• Coordinate care for patients with multiple comorbidities
• Perform focused physical examinations and clinical assessments

Diagnostic and Treatment Planning:
• Order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures to determine most appropriate medical treatment
• Interpret diagnostic imaging, laboratory results, and clinical data
• Prescribe and administer medications and treatments according to best practices
• Adjust therapies based on patient response and clinical evidence
• Monitor treatment effectiveness and modify plans as needed
• Consider cost-effectiveness and patient preferences in treatment decisions

Research and Medical Knowledge:
• Study the nature, cause, and development of diseases
• Understand structural and functional changes caused by diseases
• May conduct medical research on human disorders, illnesses, preventive or curative methods
• Stay current with medical literature and emerging treatments
• Apply latest research findings to clinical practice
• Contribute to clinical research or quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in continuing medical education

Consultation and Collaboration:
• Act as consultant to other physicians and healthcare providers
• Refer patients for surgery when surgical intervention indicated

• Participate in multidisciplinary care teams
