Experience Requirements
• 3 years to less than 5 years of professional carpentry experience required
• Hands-on experience in residential, commercial, or industrial construction
• Background in framing, finishing, and installation work
• Knowledge of building codes and construction standards
• Experience with project coordination and supervision
Key Responsibilities
Blueprint Reading and Planning:
• Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
• Plan work sequences for efficient project completion
• Survey building locations and levels ensuring accuracy
Construction and Framing:
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems
• Frame walls, floors, and roofs using wood and lightweight steel
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials
• Ensure structural integrity and code compliance
• Install sheathing, insulation, and structural components
Installation and Finishing:
• Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware
• Install trim, baseboards, crown moulding, and decorative elements
• Hang doors and install door hardware, locks, and closers
• Install cabinetry, countertops, and built-in features
• Execute precise finishing work with attention to detail
Project Coordination:
• Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
• Manage material deliveries and workflow
• Coordinate with other trades and contractors
• Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget
• Communicate with clients and project managers
Supervision and Training:
• Instruct apprentices in carpentry techniques and safety
• Mentor junior carpenters and laborers
• Delegate tasks and oversee work quality
• Provide on-the-job training and guidance
Estimation and Planning:
• Estimate costs and materials for carpentry projects
• Calculate quantities of lumber, materials, and supplies
• Provide accurate quotes for labor and materials
• Prepare material lists and procurement plans
Maintenance and Repair:
• Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants, and other establishments
• Diagnose structural issues and execute repairs
• Restore and renovate existing structures
• Perform preventive maintenance on buildings and facilities
• Replace damaged components and upgrade structures
