  • Experience caring for more than one child at a time is considered a strong asset

Work Setting

  • Employer’s private home
  • Supervision and care of a multi-aged group of children
  • May include accompanying children to school, appointments, and activities (by walking, transit, or vehicle, depending on arrangements)
  • Live-out position (you will not be required to live in the home) unless otherwise discussed and agreed with the family

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Supervise and care for children at all times while on duty
  • Change diapers and assist with follow-up toilet training, following the parents’ methods and routines
  • Sterilize bottles, prepare infant formulas, and feed infants as directed
  • Bathe, dress, and feed infants and children, ensuring comfort and safety
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks based on children’s needs and parents’ preferences
  • Organize and lead age-appropriate activities such as games, arts and crafts, reading, indoor play, and outdoor walks/outings
  • Instruct and support children in personal hygiene, self-care habits, and social development (e.g., sharing, manners, routines)
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment in the home, including regular tidying of play areas and children’s rooms
  • Prepare infants and children for rest periods and nap times, following established routines
  • Take children to and from school, daycare, recreational activities, and medical appointments as required
  • Tend to the emotional well-being of children; offer comfort, encouragement, and positive reinforcement
  • Discipline children according to the methods and guidelines requested by the parents
  • Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the children (e.g., washing dishes after meals, wiping counters, tidying toys, children’s laundry as needed)
  • Shop for food and household supplies related to the children’s needs, as directed by the parents
  • Cook simple, healthy meals for the children and occasionally assist with family meals as requested
  • Assume full responsibility for the household and children in the absence of parents, following established routines and emergency procedures
  • Communicate regularly with parents about children’s activities, progress, routines, and any concerns

  • Need to remain attentive and responsive throughout the shift
  • Ability to work different shifts within the early morning, morning, day, and evening schedule, as agreed with the family

Additional Requirements (Assets)

  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain shortly after hiring)
  • Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening (may be required before start date)
  • Experience working in a home childcare or daycare setting is an asset
  • Ability to speak additional languages is an asset but not required
