Job Overview
Hillside Farms is hiring a dependable Cowhand to support daily dairy and livestock operations in a rural Lyn, Ontario setting. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on livestock experience who is comfortable working outdoors in wet/damp conditions and understands that animal care requires consistency, attention to detail, and strong responsibility. You will assist with feeding, milking, calving monitoring, herd health observation, barn cleanliness, feed inventory tracking, and basic operation of farm machinery and barn systems. If you are safety-minded, reliable, and committed to animal welfare and clean work practices, this is a strong opportunity for permanent full-time employment with LMIA support available for eligible international candidates.

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Develop specific plans to prioritize daily herd tasks and ensure time-sensitive routines are completed
- Develop and guide the behaviour of farm animals using safe, calm handling practices
- Handle animals safely and humanely and support safe movement between pens/barns
- Monitor the calving process, prepare areas as needed, and respond promptly to issues requiring attention
- Monitor animal health daily, diagnose livestock health issues, and report concerns promptly
- Treat livestock health issues as directed and within farm protocols
- Perform livestock feeding and feed and tend animals according to schedules and nutrition plans
- Track and report on current feed inventory and notify management when replenishment is needed
- Milk cows and support milking routines with strong attention to hygiene and animal comfort
- Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens and maintain sanitation and bedding standards
- Maintain livestock performance records and support accurate production tracking
- Maintain work records and logs, including daily tasks, observations, and inventory notes
- Set and monitor water lines, air flow, and temperature in barns and pens as required
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment as assigned; perform basic checks and report malfunctions
- Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures
- Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed consistently by all staff
- Perform general farm duties and support the team during peak workload periods and emergencies

- Fast-paced environment with time-sensitive routines (milking, feeding, calving)
- Physically demanding work with frequent walking, lifting, and outdoor barn tasks
- Strong attention to detail required for animal health monitoring, milking hygiene, and system checks
- Comfort working in wet/damp conditions and around livestock and equipment
