Job Overview
A private family in Toronto is seeking a caring, patient, and reliable Home Health Care Worker to provide one-on-one assistance to an elderly female client with a disability in their home. You will help with personal care, daily routines, gentle exercise, light housekeeping, and companionship, supporting the client’s dignity, comfort, and independence. Optional live‑in accommodation is available at no charge, making this an excellent opportunity for both local and international candidates who want a long‑term, full‑time caregiving role in Canada.

Languages: English

Education

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience

Experience

  • Experience as a caregiver, home support worker, personal support worker, or similar role is an asset
  • Family/employment references and informal caregiving experience will be considered
  • Employer will provide guidance on the client’s specific needs, routines, and preferences

Work Site Environment

  • Non-smoking home

Work Setting

  • Work in employer’s/client’s private home in Toronto, ON
  • Optional accommodation available at no charge on a live‑in basis (not a condition of employment; live‑out candidates are welcome)
  • One-on-one care in a residential neighbourhood

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Administer bedside and personal care, including assistance with mobility, positioning, and comfort as directed
  • Provide personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting support while respecting privacy and dignity
  • Assist in regular exercise, e.g., short supervised walks or gentle stretching, according to the client’s ability and any healthcare guidance
  • Provide companionship through conversation, reading, light activities, or simple games to support emotional well‑being and reduce isolation
  • Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the client, such as tidying the bedroom and bathroom, washing dishes after meals, and keeping common areas neat and safe
  • Assist with simple meal-related tasks or snacks as agreed with the family (e.g., plating, reheating) if required
  • Observe and report any changes in the client’s physical or emotional condition (e.g., appetite, mobility, mood, pain) to the family promptly
  • Help maintain a safe home environment by noticing and reducing trip hazards or other risks
  • Follow daily routines and care instructions provided by the client’s family and healthcare professionals, where applicable
  • Maintain respectful, professional communication with the client and family members

  • Handling light to moderate loads up to 9 kg (20 lbs), such as laundry baskets, small equipment, or assisting with gentle support
  • Physically and emotionally demanding at times, particularly when assisting with personal care or during changes in the client’s condition
  • Repetitive tasks associated with care routines and housekeeping
  • Occasional work under pressure when managing multiple needs or responding to unexpected situations

  • Good judgment in responding to client needs, safety concerns, and emergencies

  • Reliability and dependability; follows instructions carefully and completes tasks consistently
  • Patience and emotional resilience when supporting an elderly person with limitations or disabilities
  • Honesty and integrity, with strict respect for family privacy and confidentiality
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing routines, health needs, and family requests
  • Clear and respectful communication skills with both the client and family members

Additional Assets (Not Required but Preferred)

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Any caregiver, home support, or personal support worker training
  • Experience working with elderly females and/or clients with disabilities
