Cedar Meadows Resort Inc, a premier hospitality destination in Timmins, Ontario, is seeking a reliable and hardworking Hotel Maintenance Helper to join our facility operations team. Language Requirements
• English proficiency required for workplace communication and safety
• Clear understanding of instructions from supervisors and maintenance team
• Basic communication for coordinating with housekeeping and other departments
• Ability to read safety protocols and maintenance procedures
Education Requirements
• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate required
• Trade or technical school training considered an asset
• Maintenance, building systems, or facilities management courses beneficial
• On-the-job training provided
Experience Requirements
• Previous experience in building maintenance, janitorial work, or facilities operations considered an asset
• Hotel, resort, or hospitality maintenance experience preferred
• Custodial or cleaning experience beneficial
• Handyman or general labor experience valued
• Willingness to learn and develop maintenance skills essential
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and Custodial Duties:
• Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax hallways, floors, and stairs throughout hotel
• Operate industrial vacuum cleaners to remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris, and other refuse
• Clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures to hospitality standards
• Empty trash cans and other waste containers regularly
• Maintain cleanliness of public areas, corridors, and common spaces
• Spot clean spills and stains immediately
• Ensure all areas meet resort cleanliness and presentation standards
• Deep clean floors, carpets, and hard surfaces on scheduled basis
Minor Repairs and Adjustments:
• Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
• Perform basic plumbing repairs and adjustments
• Make minor electrical system repairs within scope of responsibilities
• Contact licensed tradespersons for major repairs requiring specialized expertise
• Perform minor repairs on appliances in guest rooms and common areas
• Fix dripping faucets, running toilets, and other simple plumbing issues
• Replace light bulbs, filters, and basic fixtures
• Troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions
Maintenance and Upkeep:
• Perform routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair
• Touch up paint on walls, doors, and trim
• Patch holes and repair drywall damage
• Maintain exterior areas including walkways, entrances, and parking areas
• Perform seasonal maintenance tasks as required
• Lubricate door hinges, locks, and moving parts
• Tighten loose fixtures and hardware
• Replace worn weather stripping and seals
Heavy Work and Material Handling:
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies throughout facility
• Rearrange furniture for events and room configurations
• Transport equipment and materials to various locations
• Load and unload delivery trucks
• Set up and take down event furniture and equipment
• Assist with renovations and improvement projects
• Handle mattresses, box springs, and large appliances
Facility Support:
• Respond to on-call maintenance requests promptly
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment
• Monitor building systems and report issues
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and storage
• Stock and organize maintenance supplies
• Assist with snow removal and winter maintenance when needed
• Support special events and functions with setup and breakdown
• Coordinate with housekeeping and front desk on maintenance needs
Safety and Compliance:
• Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately
• Handle chemicals and cleaning supplies safely
• Maintain safe work environment for staff and guests
• Report safety hazards immediately
• Comply with building codes and regulations
• Participate in safety training and meetings
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
• Physically demanding work requiring strength and stamina
• Repetitive tasks including cleaning, lifting, and maintenance activities
• Standing, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling throughout shift
• Lifting and carrying heavy loads up to 50+ lbs regularly
• Working with cleaning chemicals and maintenance equipment
• Climbing ladders and working at heights when necessary
• Working in various temperatures including hot mechanical rooms and cold outdoor areas
• Early morning, morning, and day shifts with on-call availability
• Responding to urgent maintenance issues as they arise
• Manual dexterity for repairs and detailed work
• Ability to work independently and as part of team
