Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) at Southlake models clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) practice standards. The RN collaborates with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide exceptional care to patients in a fast-paced, acute medical environment.

Sponsorship Opportunity
Candidates who do not meet all the listed qualifications may be considered for a Critical Care Nursing Program Sponsorship through the Michener Institute. This paid, 11-week program includes instructor-led virtual and clinical education, mentorship, and opportunities for additional certifications upon completion.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Deliver patient- and family-focused care within the RN scope of practice.
Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to patients with complex health conditions.
Monitor, assess, and document patient health status regularly.
Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans to ensure effectiveness.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Act as a mentor, supporting new staff and students during orientation and preceptorship.
Provide leadership in patient care coordination, including assuming the charge nurse role when assigned.
Participate in the development and evaluation of clinical pathways and best practices.
Adhere to hospital policies, emergency protocols, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Critical Care Sponsorship Qualifications

Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Minimum of 1–3 years of recent medical or surgical nursing experience (preferred).
Current BCLS certification; ACLS preferred.
Demonstrated critical thinking, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to learn and adapt to a dynamic healthcare environment.

Skills and Knowledge Needed as a Registered Nurse in Canada

In-depth understanding of nursing practices, including patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
Ability to manage emergencies and make sound decisions under pressure.
Knowledge of healthcare policies, safety standards, and patient rights.

Education and Certification Required as a Registered Nurse in Canada

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent.
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
