Key Responsibilities

Mussel Farming Operations:
• Participate in mussel socking operations – attaching young mussels to growing lines
• Assist with mussel harvesting from marine sites
• Handle mussel growing equipment including lines, ropes, and socks
• Support all stages of mussel cultivation cycle
• Work with aquaculture gear and systems
• Maintain mussel farming equipment and infrastructure
• Follow sustainable aquaculture practices

Fishing Gear and Equipment:
• Prepare nets, lines, and other fishing tackle for operations
• Operate fishing gear to harvest mussels and maintain sites
• Set up and retrieve mussel growing lines and equipment
• Maintain and repair fishing gear and aquaculture equipment
• Handle ropes, cables, and marine hardware
• Operate winches and deck machinery safely
• Ensure all gear is in good working condition

Harvest and Processing:
• Harvest mussels from growing lines efficiently
• Clean, sort, and grade mussels according to quality standards
• Pack harvested mussels in ice and proper containers
• Stow catch in refrigerated hold maintaining cold chain
• Handle product carefully to preserve quality
• Meet production targets and quality requirements
• Follow food safety and handling protocols

Vessel Operations:
• Steer vessels to and from fishing and farming areas
• Assist with vessel navigation and operation
• Secure vessels at moorings and docks
• Handle lines and assist with docking procedures
• Operate small boats and work vessels
• Maintain vessel safety and operational readiness
• Follow maritime safety regulations and procedures

Deck Maintenance:
• Clean deck surfaces regularly to maintain safe working conditions
• Clean and sanitize fish hold and storage areas
• Maintain organized, safe deck environment
• Remove debris and ensure proper drainage
• Keep work areas free of hazards
• Perform routine vessel maintenance tasks
• Ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards

• Fast-paced environment with production targets
• Handling heavy loads including equipment, gear, and harvested mussels
• Highly physically demanding marine labor
• Standing for extended periods on moving vessel
