Job Overview
Trans Link is hiring Long Haul Truck Drivers based out of Ayr, Ontario to transport goods safely and efficiently over long distances. This role is ideal for a safety-focused AZ driver who is willing to learn, travel, and represent the company professionally at customer sites and on the road. No previous long-haul experience is required as training will be provided to qualified candidates. You will plan routes using GPS and dispatch instructions, complete detailed inspections, secure loads (including tarping), maintain accurate logbooks and shipping documents, and respond appropriately to changing conditions, roadside issues, and customer service needs.

Languages: English

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience: No experience required (will train)

Credentials (Required)

  • AZ class license

Documentation Knowledge

  • Accident or incident reports
  • Bill of lading
  • Driver logbook / hours of service records
  • Inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip)
  • Trans-border documentation (as applicable to assigned routes)

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and on schedule
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy when required
  • Drive lighter, special purpose trucks when assigned
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions using computer equipment, GPS, and navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Load and unload goods when required and ensure freight is handled safely to prevent damage
  • Tarp loads and ensure safety and security of cargo using proper securement methods
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment as applicable
  • Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of vehicle safety
  • Perform brake adjustments and basic preventive maintenance within scope
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs when necessary and follow company procedures for breakdowns
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch and provide timely updates on route progress and delays
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption accurately
  • Address customers’ complaints or concerns professionally and maintain professionalism in customer service
  • Arrange travel-related itineraries and make reservations as required for long-haul assignments
  • Pay and receive payments for goods when assigned, following company handling procedures
  • Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed and report estimates/needs to the supervisor
  • Transport and handle dangerous goods when assigned, following all applicable regulations and procedures
