Responsibilities

  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy when required
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment
  • Perform brake adjustments as needed
  • Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of vehicle
  • Transport freight safely and efficiently across long distances
  • Maintain accurate driver logs and documentation
  • Complete bill of lading and other shipping documents
  • Ensure cargo is properly secured and balanced
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding schedules and delivery updates
  • Follow all federal and provincial transportation regulations
  • Adhere to hours of service requirements
  • Report any mechanical issues or accidents promptly
  • Deliver goods on time while maintaining safety standards
  • Assist with loading and unloading when required
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of truck cab
  • Represent company professionally at all customer locations

Credentials

  • Air Brakes Endorsement (required)
  • Driver’s License Class 1 or A (required)
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Valid passport or travel documents for cross-border routes (an asset)
  • FAST card (an asset)
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification (an asset, training may be provided)

  • Inspection reports (pre-trip, en route, post-trip)
  • Customs documentation for cross-border shipments
