Seaspan Shipyards is proud to be Canada’s long-term, strategic shipbuilding partner for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. As a direct result of this work, while creating jobs and rebuilding our domestic shipbuilding industry, Seaspan Shipyards is delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

Vancouver Shipyards, based in North Vancouver, has a very busy and exciting year ahead, as we continue to make progress on two 174m long Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy – the largest ships ever built in Canada! We are also constructing an Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard, and have secured significant contracts to design and build a Polar Icebreaker and several Multi-Purpose Vessels. These projects will bring long-term job stability for many years to come.

The Tool Crib Technician will report to the Tooling and Equipment Supervisor and will be responsible for maintenance, repair and calibration of tooling

Duties/Accountabilities

  • Operate safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Receive/send parts and materials as required.
  • Controlling the issue and return of all tools
  • Inspect tools and equipment for defects, wear and assess/perform repairs as required.
  • Obtain and hold a forklift and manlift ticket if directed by management.
  • Proficient in operating desktop and mobile versions of our computerized maintenance management system
  • (CMMS) after required training.
  • Be able to obtain OEM training within and outside of Canada.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Experience

Trades certification in mechanical, millwright, or machinist required. Multi-ticketed preferred.
Minimum 3 years related work experience in an industrial maintenance environment, 5+ years preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Required Competencies

  • Appreciates and understands the value of diversity within a team.
  • Possess effective communication skills, both written, verbal, and electronic.
  • Proficient with MS Office products and web-based applications.
  • Experience with CMMS programs an asset.
  • Ability to work with and through others to achieve desired results
  • Be able to successfully pass OEM factory prerequisites and training courses.
  • Be able to travel internationally for training.
  • Ability to work in a construction environment involving working at heights, physical labor, and various weather
  • conditions.
  • Must be flexible and be able to work all shifts.
