Responsibilities
- Estimate costs and materials for welding projects and repairs
- Prepare production and other operational reports
- Recruit and hire workers and carry out related staffing actions
- Coordinate and schedule activities for welding team
- Ensure health and safety regulations are followed at all times
- Oversee the operation of welding department
- Requisition or order materials, equipment, and supplies
- Set up machines and equipment for welding operations
- Supervise workers and projects to ensure quality and timelines
- Train and mentor welders on techniques and safety procedures
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members
- Monitor inventory of welding supplies and materials
- Troubleshoot welding issues and provide technical guidance
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback
- Ensure proper maintenance of welding equipment
- Coordinate with other departments on project requirements
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of production and labour
- Address employee concerns and resolve workplace issues
- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards
Welding Skills and Knowledge
- MIG, TIG, and stick welding processes
- Structural and equipment welding
- Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation
- Metal fabrication techniques
- Welding inspection and quality control
- Equipment repair and maintenance welding
- Safety protocols and procedures
Credentials (Required/Preferred)
- Welder Trade Certification or Red Seal Endorsement
- CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certification (an asset)
- Supervisory or management training (an asset)
- Valid driver’s license
- First Aid and CPR certification (an asset)
- WHMIS certification
