Job Overview
Welkin Transport Ltd is hiring Long Haul Truck Drivers based out of Burnaby, BC to transport goods safely and efficiently across long-distance routes. This role is ideal for a dependable Class 1/A driver who takes pride in safe driving, accurate documentation, and professional customer interactions. You will complete thorough vehicle inspections, track hours of service and fuel usage, secure cargo (including tarping), and obtain required permits and route documents for international routes when applicable. Experience is not required as we will train qualified candidates who meet licensing requirements and demonstrate strong safety habits and reliability.

Languages: English

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience: Will train (previous long-haul experience is an asset but not required)

Work Setting

• Various locations (long-distance routes; schedules vary by load and destination)

Credentials (Required)

• Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)
• Air Brakes Endorsement

Documentation Knowledge

• Driver logbook and hours-of-service records

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and on schedule
• Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes when assigned
• Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of vehicle condition
• Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, and cold storage/other equipment as applicable
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption accurately
• Tarp loads and ensure safety and security of cargo using proper securement methods
• Communicate with dispatch regarding route progress, delays, and delivery updates
• Follow all safety procedures, traffic laws, and company policies while representing the company professionally

Security and Safety

• Driving record check (abstract) required
• Strong commitment to safe driving and compliance with hours-of-service rules required

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

• Long periods of sitting while driving
• Physically demanding tasks may include tarping and load securement
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on dispatch schedules
• Attention to detail required for inspections, documentation, and cargo security
