Work Setting

  • Construction sites

  • Renovation projects

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates of labour and material costs
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, moldings, and hardware
  • Supervise other workers and apprentices on job sites
  • Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants, and other establishments
  • Install interior and exterior trim and finishing elements
  • Construct and install cabinets, countertops, and built-in furniture
  • Frame walls, partitions, and structural components
  • Ensure all work meets building codes and quality standards
  • Inspect and assess project sites before commencing work
  • Coordinate with other trades and contractors on job sites
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe condition
  • Follow all workplace health and safety regulations
  • Communicate with clients regarding project progress and requirements

Credentials (Preferred)

  • Carpenter Trade Certification or Red Seal Endorsement (an asset)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • WHMIS certification
  • Fall protection training
  • First Aid and CPR certification (an asset)

Own Tools and Equipment (Recommended)

  • Personal hand tools and power tools
  • Steel-toed safety boots
  • Hard hat
