Job Overview
Urth Farm, Ranch & Homes Ltd is hiring General Farm Workers to support a wide range of farm operations in Canal Flats, British Columbia. This role is ideal for someone who is hardworking, safety-minded, and ready to learn. No experience is required because training will be provided. You will help with livestock and poultry care, barn and pen cleaning and disinfection, feeding routines, greenhouse and field crop tasks, harvesting, and basic equipment operation. The work is outdoors in all weather conditions and may involve dusty, noisy, wet/damp, and physically demanding environments. Staff accommodation is available, and candidates willing to relocate to a rural area are encouraged to apply.

Education: No degree, certificate, or diploma required

Experience: No experience required (will train)

Work Setting

  • Rural area
  • Staff accommodation available (subject to availability and employer terms)

  • Public transportation is not available (reliable commuting plans required)

Work Site Environment

  • Broiler and other meat-type chicken production
  • Layer poultry farming and poultry/egg production
  • Chicken farming
  • Livestock combination farming and other miscellaneous animal farming
  • Fruit and vegetable combination farming and other miscellaneous crop farming
  • Tree and orchard fruit
  • Outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Dusty, hot, noisy, wet/damp conditions with odours
  • At heights and potentially dangerous environments requiring strict safety compliance

Supervision

  • May supervise 1 to 2 people depending on task and workload

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Feed and tend animals and perform livestock feeding according to schedules and farm routines
  • Handle animals safely and humanely and follow animal welfare and safety procedures
  • Disinfect pens, barns, or poultry houses and maintain sanitation standards
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens and maintain tidy, safe work areas
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed consistently
  • Plant, cultivate, and irrigate crops and support greenhouse cleaning as assigned
  • Weed and harvest crops and assist with sorting and handling as needed
  • Clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas
  • Clear fields of wood and stones to support safe equipment operation and field readiness
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment as assigned; perform basic checks and report issues
  • Maintain work records and logs and write daily basic progress reports as required
  • Perform general farm duties and assist with additional tasks during peak periods, emergencies, and seasonal changes

  • Steel-toed safety boots required
  • Gloves required

  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions once trained
  • Fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Work under pressure during peak farm periods and time-sensitive animal care routines
  • Physically demanding work with repetitive tasks and handling heavy loads
  • Combination of sitting, standing, and walking; standing for extended periods and frequent walking
  • Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • Strong attention to detail and hand-eye coordination required for safe handling and task accuracy
  • Sound discrimination required to recognize alarms, equipment noises, and changes in animal/environment conditions
  • Large workload requiring consistent effort and strong work habits
