Job Overview
Green Pack Produce Inc is looking for reliable and hard-working General Farm Labourers to join its vegetable farm in Newcastle, Ontario for the growing and harvest season. You will work mainly with field and greenhouse vegetables such as cabbage and cauliflower, helping with planting, crop care, harvest, sorting, and packing. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy physical outdoor work, want steady seasonal hours, and are ready to learn practical farm skills in a fast-paced environment. Full training is provided, so no previous farm experience is required—only a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to handle demanding physical tasks.

Work Site Environment
- Other vegetables and melon farming (except potato)
- Outdoor fields and greenhouse environments
- Work in all weather conditions (sun, rain, wind, heat, cool temperatures)
Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Apply the technique of hoeing between crop rows to control weeds and maintain plant health
- Cut agricultural crops by hand or using simple tools, following quality and safety guidelines
- Hand-harvest vegetables carefully to avoid damage and maintain product quality
- Harvest seedlings and assist with transplanting as required
- Plant, cultivate, and irrigate crops according to instructions and farm schedules
- Perform greenhouse cleaning, including removing old plants and debris and maintaining clean walkways and workspaces
- Tie and secure plants to supports (stakes, strings, trellises) to promote proper growth and stability
- Weed fields and greenhouse areas using hand tools and manual methods
- Examine products (fruits and vegetables) for quality and readiness for harvest and market
- Grade vegetables and fruits into different grades according to size, shape, colour, and volume to meet customer and market standards
- Sort fruits and vegetables and pack them into boxes, crates, or bags according to specifications
- Pack fruits and vegetables for shipping or storage, ensuring containers are correctly filled, labelled, and stacked
- Clean work areas, tools, and equipment at the end of each shift or as required
- Follow all farm safety rules and procedures to protect yourself, co-workers, and equipment
Experience and Specialization
- Type of crops:
- Cabbage

- Equipment and machinery experience (assets, not mandatory):
- Hand tools (hoes, knives, pruners, etc.)
Transportation/Travel Information
- Own transportation required (rural location; public transit is limited or unavailable)
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Ability to work independently once trained, as well as part of a team
- Fast-paced environment with daily and weekly production targets
- Repetitive tasks such as bending, lifting, hoeing, and sorting
- Working under pressure to meet harvest and shipping deadlines
- Handling heavy loads and lifting up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs) regularly
- Physically demanding role requiring stamina, strength, and the ability to work on your feet for long periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination when handling plants, tools, and produce
- Attention to detail in grading, sorting, and following instructions
- Standing for extended periods, with frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking on uneven ground and in greenhouse environments
- Large workload during peak periods, requiring reliability and consistent effort
