Responsibilities

  • Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate and complete
  • Enter client information in pharmacy databases and computer systems
  • Help pharmacists with prescription preparation and dispensing tasks
  • Maintain inventories of medications and pharmaceutical products
  • Bill third party insurers and process insurance claims
  • Maintain inventories of medications and prescription records of pharmaceutical products
  • Schedule and confirm appointments for pharmacy services
  • Receive and process prescription orders from patients and healthcare providers
  • Prepare prescription labels and documentation
  • Assist with compounding and packaging medications under pharmacist supervision
  • Answer telephone inquiries and respond to customer questions
  • Process payments and handle cash transactions
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of pharmacy area
  • Assist with receiving and stocking pharmaceutical shipments
  • Monitor medication expiration dates and manage inventory rotation
  • Support patient counselling by directing customers to pharmacist
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and records
  • Comply with all pharmacy regulations and professional standards
  • Assist with pharmacy audits and regulatory compliance
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patients and clients

Credentials (Required/Preferred)

  • Pharmacy Assistant diploma or certification
  • Registration with Alberta College of Pharmacy (or eligibility to register)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (an asset)
  • Knowledge of pharmacy software systems
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical terminology
