Job Overview
trans-tec inc is hiring a Transformer Repairer to support maintenance, repair, service, and testing work for electrical and electro-mechanical equipment in Scarborough and on customer sites. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician who is comfortable in a noisy, dusty, and safety-sensitive environment and who wants to grow into a highly specialized trade. You will read blueprints, troubleshoot and repair transformers, motors, switchgear, and generators, fabricate or recondition parts using machining tools, complete coil winding and assembly work, and test repaired equipment to ensure it performs to required standards. If you are safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and detail-oriented, this is an excellent opportunity for stable full-time employment with benefits and LMIA support for eligible international candidates.

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience
- 1 to less than 7 months of related experience (electrical repair, industrial maintenance, electro-mechanical work, motor/transformer shop, or similar)
- Employer will provide job-specific training to strengthen skills and ensure safe procedures are followed
Work Site Environment
- Noisy

- Dangerous (high emphasis on safety procedures and PPE)
Work Setting
- Maintenance and repair shop environment
- Testing and service work
- On-site customer service and field servicing as required
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Read blueprints and technical drawings to determine work requirements and repair approach
- Test and observe electrical and mechanical conditions of equipment to identify faults
- Troubleshoot and repair electric motors, transformers, switchgear, generators, and other electro-mechanical equipment
- Use machining tools to fabricate or recondition parts to specification
- Replace or recondition shafts, bearings, commutators, and other components
- Wind, assemble, and install various types of coils
- Perform static or dynamic balancing of armatures or rotors as required
- Perform machining to recondition or modify shafts, commutators, or other parts
- Test and repair or replace faulty wiring or components in electrical switchgear
- Test repaired motors, transformers, switchgear, or other electrical apparatus to ensure proper performance and reliability
- Assemble small transformers, small electrical motors, and transmissions
- Repair or replace interior components and ensure correct reassembly and fit
- Perform on-site servicing and repair, communicating professionally with customers and documenting work completed
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations, lockout/tagout practices, and shop/site procedures at all times
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment responsibly
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Physically demanding work with lifting and moving equipment/components
- Handling heavy loads
- Standing for extended periods
- Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for winding, fitting, machining, and assembly tasks
- Ability to work carefully and consistently in a safety-sensitive environment
