Job Overview
Veri Media Work Ltd. is seeking an experienced and strategic Financial Manager to oversee the financial health, planning, and performance of our organization. As a key member of the leadership team, you will manage budgeting, financial reporting, and controls for an annual budget in the range of $500,001 – $1,500,000. You will design and implement financial policies, provide actionable insights to senior management, and ensure that all financial operations are accurate, compliant, and aligned with our business goals. This position is ideal for a hands-on finance professional with strong analytical skills, proven management experience, and a desire to contribute to the growth of a forward-looking media company in Nova Scotia.

Experience

  • 5 years or more of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or financial management

  • Experience working with budgets between $500,001 and $1,500,000 is a strong asset
  • Experience in media, advertising, communications, or a related sector is an advantage but not required

Work Setting / Role Context

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Plan, develop, and control the organization’s overall budget and expenditures in line with strategic objectives
  • Review, analyze, and interpret budgets and financial reports for specific projects, departments, and the overall business
  • Establish, document, and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Monitor and improve financial control systems, including approval processes, expense controls, and reconciliation procedures
  • Oversee the preparation, accuracy, and timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
  • Advise senior management on financial performance, risks, opportunities, and strategies to improve profitability and cash flow
  • Lead financial planning and forecasting, including cash flow projections, scenario analysis, and long-term financial planning
  • Manage contracts from a financial perspective, including reviewing financial terms, payment schedules, and compliance with budgets
  • Oversee payroll administration, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in accordance with legal and company requirements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and applicable legislation (e.g., tax filings, remittances, and regulatory reporting)
  • Coordinate and support external audits or reviews, preparing working papers and responding to auditor queries
  • Manage banking relationships, including credit facilities, cash management, and banking arrangements
  • Implement and monitor cost-control measures and efficiency improvements across the organization
  • Supervise and mentor finance or accounting support staff, if applicable, including assigning tasks and reviewing work
  • Maintain accurate, organized financial records and documentation for easy retrieval and audit readiness
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making for new projects, investments, or business initiatives

Experience and Specialization

  • Area of Work Experience:
    • Financial management and oversight
    • Supervisory or management responsibilities within a finance or accounting department
  • Area of Specialization:
    • Accounting and financial reporting
    • Financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
    • Cost control and financial analysis

Computer and Technology Knowledge

  • Proficiency with:
    • MS Office (strong Excel skills required for analysis, reporting, and modeling)
    • MS Outlook for communication and scheduling
    • QuickBooks and/or similar accounting software
    • General accounting software and ERP tools used for bookkeeping, reporting, and payroll
  • Comfortable using cloud-based tools and digital document management systems

Additional Information – Transportation/Travel

  • Valid driver’s licence required
  • Ability to travel occasionally for work-related purposes (meetings, training, audits) as needed
