Job Overview
MAGNOLIA DENTAL WATERDOWN is seeking an experienced Dental Assistant to support clinical procedures, patient comfort, and dental laboratory functions while maintaining high standards of infection control and professionalism. This role is ideal for a skilled assistant who can confidently prepare patients and operatory setups, manage sterilization and instrument flow, take dental radiographs, educate patients on oral hygiene, and complete accurate clinical documentation. You may also supervise and train other assistants or students in training and support lab-related tasks such as impressions, models, and temporary restorations. Education
- Bachelor’s degree
- Dental assisting/assistant education required
Experience
- 2 years to less than 3 years of relevant dental assisting experience in a clinical setting
- Experience supporting both chairside duties and lab processes is a strong asset
Credentials
- Healing Arts Radiation Protection (HARP) Certification required
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Prepare patients for dental examinations and procedures, ensuring comfort, understanding, and readiness
- Prepare dental instruments and filling materials; set up operatories for efficient clinical flow
- Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment and follow infection prevention and control protocols
- Take and develop X-rays in accordance with HARP standards and clinic procedures
- Record dental procedures performed on patients and maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Educate patients concerning oral hygiene, post-treatment care, and preventive practices
- Schedule and confirm appointments and support front-desk coordination as needed
- Invoice patients for dental services and assist with administrative tasks related to treatment records and billing
- Maintain and order supplies; order dental and office supplies and track inventory to prevent shortages
- Perform administrative functions for the dental laboratory as required
- Prepare plaster models and moulds; prepare wax bite-blocks and impression trays
- Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts where appropriate and within scope
- Polish teeth and clinical crowns and apply fluoride and sealant as directed and within scope
- Fabricate and place temporary crowns and restorations as assigned and within scope
- Polish and buff dentures and support finishing and delivery preparation
- Prepare, assemble, and complete technical lab steps as needed, including plastering, packing, waxing-up, casting, polishing, and assembly
- Supervise dental assistants in their health care functions and support consistent clinical standards
- Train other dental laboratory assistants and supervise students in training when required
- Communicate clearly with the dentist(s), hygienists, and team members to coordinate procedures and ensure smooth patient flow
