Job Overview
Hope Family Pork Ltd. is hiring Farm Workers (Hogs) to support daily barn operations and animal care in Parkhill, Ontario. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a livestock environment. You will help feed and tend animals, monitor animal health, maintain clean pens and barns, and complete basic daily progress reports to support consistent production and animal welfare standards. No previous hog farm experience is required as training will be provided, but a strong work ethic, good hygiene habits, and willingness to follow safety and biosecurity procedures are essential for success in this role.

Education: No degree, certificate, or diploma required

Experience

  • Will train (livestock, farm labour, or barn experience is an asset but not required)

Work Site Environment

  • Odours typical of livestock barns
  • Wet/damp conditions

Work Setting

  • Hog barn / livestock production environment
  • Routine-based daily operations with time-sensitive feeding and care schedules

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Feed and tend animals according to daily schedules and barn procedures
  • Monitor animal health and behaviour, identifying signs of illness, stress, or injury and reporting concerns promptly
  • Support basic animal welfare practices, including careful handling and calm movement of animals when required
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens to maintain hygiene standards and a safe working environment
  • Follow farm safety and biosecurity procedures, including hygiene routines and controlled movement between areas
  • Write daily basic progress reports, including observations, counts, and any issues needing follow-up
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and supplies responsibly
  • Assist with other general barn duties as needed to support smooth operations

  • Fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks and daily productivity expectations
  • Work under pressure during peak periods or when animal care needs change
  • Handling heavy loads (feed, supplies, equipment)
  • Strong attention to detail required for animal monitoring, cleaning standards, and reporting
  • Sound discrimination required to recognize alarms, equipment noises, and changes in animal sounds/behaviour

  • Detail-oriented and careful, especially when monitoring animal health and completing reports

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn through training

Additional Assets (Preferred)

  • Previous experience with livestock care or farm work (asset)
  • Familiarity with cleaning and sanitation routines in agricultural settings (asset)
  • Ability to complete simple written records in English (asset)
