Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is Canada’s largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital and a top 40 Canadian research hospital. They are searching for passionate Care Assistants (Personal Support Workers) to join their team and support children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays during their Creative Arts March Break Respite Camp, Sponsorship Avaialable for eligible candidates

What you will do:

Facilitate personal care for clients/participants, including changing briefs and toileting support.
Safely support lifts, transfers, and repositioning, including the use of Hoyer/ceiling lifts.
Provide full eating support to clients as needed.
Collaborate with program staff to ensure that programming goals are met, including participation in group activities such as arts activities, sing-along music, etc.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advance a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
Other duties as assigned.

Who they are looking for:

PSW certificate/college diploma or equivalent
Proven experience with Hoyer/ceiling lifts and changing tables, and all aspects of toileting activities for clients with disabilities ages 4 to 18, is required
Current ability to lift, transfer or position participants independently as needed
Proven experience in preparing clients who use wheelchairs for transportation i.e., on an accessible school bus
Past work experience and ability to independently support eating (i.e. spoon-to-mouth) for clients with disabilities ages 4 to 18 is required
Previous work experience with children and youth with physical disabilities, developmental delays, and/or who are neurodivergent is required
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and to quickly assess and respond to participant support needs
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage working hours
Demonstrates initiative and self-direction to work independently at times
Ability to take direction, adhere to instructions, and receive feedback
CPR certification – CPR HS (Heart Saver) certificate recommended
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate an asset
Knowledge of Deaf culture and American Sign Language (ASL) qualifications an asset
