Job Overview
MegaResistors is seeking a detail-focused and hands-on Electrical Engineering Technologist to support the design, testing, and commissioning of power equipment and resistor systems. You will work closely with engineers, technologists, and production teams to translate designs into tested, reliable products. This role combines office-based design and documentation with lab and shop-floor testing, calibration, and troubleshooting. It is ideal for a technologist who enjoys working with real hardware, understands power and control systems, and wants to grow with a specialized, engineering-driven manufacturer in Mississauga.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or closely related field
Experience
- 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in an electrical engineering technologist, test technologist, or similar role
- Experience with power equipment, industrial electrical systems, or electronic testing environments is a strong asset
- Experience working in a manufacturing or product development environment is an advantage
Work Setting
- Office-based work for design, documentation, and project coordination
- Regular work in test lab and production/assembly areas to build, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment
- Occasional visits to customer sites or installation locations may be required for commissioning and service support
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Design and develop power equipment and systems in collaboration with engineers, with a focus on resistors, power assemblies, and related electrical components
- Assist in preparing estimates, schedules, specifications, and technical reports for projects and custom solutions
- Write clear and accurate technical specifications for components, assemblies, and test procedures
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and other technical instructions to determine work requirements
- Supervise and participate in the building and testing of prototypes and production units to ensure they meet design specifications and performance criteria
- Assist in building and testing prototypes to specifications, making recommendations for design improvements as required
- Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test, and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems
- Calibrate electronic equipment and instruments to maintain accuracy and reliability, documenting calibration results
- Conduct or supervise the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment and systems at the facility and, when required, at client locations
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and service equipment, identifying root causes of issues and implementing corrective actions
- Maintain equipment, tools, and test benches in good working order, and ensure calibration and maintenance schedules are followed
- Monitor and verify compliance with technical standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications throughout the build and test process
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing test efficiency, product reliability, and documentation quality
- Coordinate the flow of technical information between engineering, production, quality, and sales teams as needed
- Maintain accurate records of designs, test results, changes, and non-conformance reports
Experience and Specialization
- Computer and Technology Knowledge:
- Networking software (for configuring, monitoring, or integrating network-connected devices and systems)
- MS Outlook (for communication and scheduling)
- Familiarity with basic office and technical software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, and data logging tools)
- Experience with CAD/ECAD tools or test automation software is an asset
- Equipment, Systems and Controls Experience:
- Electronic testing equipment and systems (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, hipot testers, data acquisition systems)
- Experience with power equipment, control panels, or industrial electrical assemblies is a strong asset
Additional Requirements (Assets)
- Eligibility for or membership with a relevant professional association (e.g., engineering technologist association) is an asset
- Understanding of applicable electrical codes and standards (e.g., CSA, UL, IEC) is beneficial
- Valid driver’s licence may be an advantage for occasional site visits
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Work under pressure with tight deadlines, especially during project deliveries and commissioning phases
- High level of attention to detail required for design review, testing, measurement, and documentation
- Combination of desk-based work (computer/design/documentation) and hands-on work in test and production areas
- Periods of standing, walking, and working around electrical equipment and test benches
- Handling instruments, small components, and test leads with good manual dexterity
- Need to follow strict safety procedures when working with live electrical systems and high-power equipment
