Job Overview
Aletta Holsteins is hiring a Dairy Herdsperson to support daily herd care and dairy production in Linden, Manitoba. This role is ideal for someone with practical dairy experience who can work independently, follow time-sensitive routines, and take responsibility for herd health, feeding programs, and production records. You will assist with calving, milking, animal health monitoring and treatment, breeding and AI support, hoof trimming and lameness prevention, barn environmental controls, equipment operation, and sanitation and bio-security procedures. Experience
- 7 months to less than 1 year of relevant dairy/livestock experience

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Monitor animal health daily, diagnose livestock health issues, and report/escalate concerns as needed
- Treat livestock health issues as directed and within farm protocols
- Monitor the calving process and support calving management, including preparing clean, safe calving areas
- Milk cows and support automated milking routines with strong attention to hygiene and animal comfort
- Formulate feeding program and perform livestock feeding according to schedules and herd needs
- Direct farm feed inventory activities, track and report current feed inventory, and support automated feed handling systems
- Feed and tend animals and perform animal grooming activities as required
- Carry out pasture or pen breeding programs and conduct artificial insemination and related livestock procedures as assigned
- Prevent and treat lameness by hoof trimming and monitor mobility/comfort of animals
- Set and monitor water lines, airflow, and temperature in barns and pens using environmental control systems
- Disinfect pens, barns, or poultry houses as required and maintain sanitation standards
- Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens and maintain organized, safe work areas
- Maintain livestock performance records, quality control records, and production records accurately
- Maintain work records and logs and support daily reporting requirements
- Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock, and poultry and report issues promptly
- Harvest crops and perform general farm duties as required
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment; perform routine checks and report malfunctions
- Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed consistently by all staff

- Ability to work independently and maintain consistent routines
- Fast-paced environment with time-sensitive tasks (milking, feeding, calving, treatments)
- Work under pressure during calving, health events, and seasonal peaks
- Physically demanding work with repetitive tasks and handling heavy loads
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout shifts
- Strong attention to detail required for animal health, record keeping, and system monitoring
- Sound discrimination required to recognize alarms, equipment noises, and changes in animal sounds/behaviour
