Job Overview
Kolk Farms Ltd is seeking an experienced, hands-on Farm Foreman/Woman to help manage daily operations on a mixed beef cattle and hay operation near Iron Springs, Alberta. In this leadership role, you will work directly with livestock and crops while coordinating a small team of general farm workers and harvest labourers. You will be involved in everything from herd health and feeding programs to irrigation, haying, and record-keeping, with a strong focus on safety, productivity, and animal welfare. This position is ideal for a skilled agricultural worker who is ready to step into a supervisory role on a modern farm and build a long-term career in Canadian agriculture.

Experience

• 2 years to less than 3 years of relevant farm experience, ideally with beef cattle and crop/hay operations
• Previous experience in a lead hand, senior farm worker, or supervisory role is a strong asset

Work Site Environment

• Beef cattle ranching and farming, including feedlots
• Hay farming and mixed livestock operations
• Outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
• Dusty, noisy, and odorous environments typical of active farms and livestock facilities
• Regular, direct work with livestock and farm machinery

Work Setting

• Rural area near Iron Springs, AB

• Work closely with farm owners/managers and supervise a small team of workers

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

• Handle cattle and other livestock safely and calmly on a daily basis, including moving, sorting, and loading as required
• Monitor animal health by observing behaviour, feed intake, lameness, and other signs of illness or distress; report and treat health issues according to farm protocols
• Treat livestock health issues as directed, including administering medications, vaccines, and other treatments under veterinary guidance
• Carry out and oversee pasture or pen breeding programs, including bull management, heat detection, breeding schedules, and coordination of pregnancy checks
• Formulate and implement feeding programs for different groups of livestock (e.g., cows, calves, feeders) in consultation with farm management and nutrition guidelines
• Perform and supervise livestock feeding using automated and manual feeding and watering systems
• Maintain livestock performance records (e.g., birth dates, weights, treatments, calving and weaning data) and use them to help improve herd performance
• Maintain quality control and production records for both livestock and crop operations
• Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs to meet production and genetic improvement goals
• Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations, including haying, seeding, spraying, and harvesting
• Provide agricultural crop services such as plowing, irrigating, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting according to seasonal needs
• Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and bio-security procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and practical
• Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are consistently followed by all workers (e.g., visitor access, disinfection protocols, animal movement)
• Coordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers (3–4 people), including task assignment, training, and daily direction
• Organize tasks and daily work plans to accomplish livestock and crop work efficiently
• Maintain work records and logs for staff activities, equipment use, and daily operations
• Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment safely, including preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting
• Arrange for more complex repairs or servicing of equipment in coordination with management and external service providers
• Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens, and oversee general farm cleanliness and orderliness
• Perform general farm duties such as fencing, field checks, water system maintenance, and yard upkeep
• Communicate regularly with farm owners/managers about herd status, crop conditions, staffing, and any issues or recommendations

• 3–4 people (general farm workers and harvesting labourers)
