Job Overview
A private household in Mississauga is seeking a dedicated Live-in Caregiver to provide personalized support and companionship to an elderly client. As a live-in caregiver, you will reside in the employer’s home and be responsible for assisting with personal care, daily routines, exercise, and nutritious meal preparation, helping the client maintain dignity, comfort, and independence. Education

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience in a related caregiving role

Experience

  • Experience is an asset (home support worker, caregiver, personal support worker, nursing aide, or similar)
  • Employer will provide guidance on client-specific routines and preferences

Work Setting

  • Work in employer’s/client’s private home in Mississauga, ON
  • Live-in arrangement required; you will reside in the home as part of your role (accommodation details to be discussed with the employer)
  • One-on-one care for an elderly client in a residential neighbourhood

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Administer bedside and personal care to the client, including assistance with mobility, positioning, and comfort measures as needed
  • Assist client in water (e.g., pool) for supervised exercise or therapeutic activities, following safety guidelines and care instructions
  • Assist client with bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, and other aspects of personal hygiene, ensuring respect and privacy at all times
  • Assist in regular exercise, such as walks and simple stretching, in accordance with the client’s capabilities and any recommendations from healthcare providers
  • Feed or assist in feeding the client, taking into account any dietary restrictions, textures, and swallowing precautions
  • Plan therapeutic diets and menus in consultation with the family and/or healthcare providers, considering nutritional requirements and personal preferences
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks, ensuring proper food handling and hygiene
  • Provide companionship through conversation, reading, games, and other shared activities to support emotional well-being and reduce isolation
  • Provide personal care in line with established routines and any written care plans
  • Monitor and observe changes in the client’s physical and emotional condition (e.g., appetite, mobility, mood, pain) and report concerns promptly to the family or designated contact
  • Maintain a tidy, safe, and organized living environment for the client, including basic tidying related to the client’s daily activities (e.g., washing dishes after meals, keeping commonly used areas clean)
  • Support the client with simple daily tasks to promote independence where possible (e.g., choosing clothing, light participation in meal preparation if able)
  • Follow all instructions from the family and any healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care

  • Good judgment in responding to changes in the client’s condition and in handling unexpected situations
  • Initiative to identify what needs to be done and take appropriate action without constant direction
  • Team player mindset when coordinating with family members and any health professionals
  • Patience and emotional resilience, particularly when assisting with repetitive tasks or challenging days
  • Honesty and respect for privacy, confidentiality, and the family’s values and household rules

Additional Assets (Not Required but Preferred)

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Any formal caregiver, personal support worker (PSW), or healthcare aide training
  • Experience with therapeutic diets, mobility aids (e.g., walker, wheelchair), or pool-based exercises
