Basic Function: The Nurse (Part-time) is responsible for providing first aid service to staff and visitors. The position dispenses non-prescription drugs, maintains health records, assists in the baby changing area and offers support to persons using the First Aid Centre. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
- Provides emergency first aid care as required to staff, guests and volunteers.
- Dispenses non-prescription drugs as required under the direction of the Zoo medical advisor.
- Maintains an accurate record of all services performed and obtains necessary release forms.
- Initiates and supports disability claims management for both non work related and work-related injury or illness.
- Initiates and submits required information for WSIB related claims.
- Supports initiatives for workplace accommodations and early and safe return programs.
- In the absence of the Nursing Coordinator, acts as their delegate and works within the scope of their nursing
- practice provides management, staff and volunteers with general health information and disease or injury prevention information as requested.
- Supports initiatives and programs that support proactive health promotion and injury prevention
- Monitors the baby change area and ensures it is kept clean and tidy; provides assistance in this area if requested.
- Assists disabled persons using the Health & Wellness Centre as required.
- Supervises lost children and maintains records regarding same.
Qualifications:
- Must have a professional designation Registered Nursing Certification valid and in good standing in the Province of Ontario.
- Must have 3-5 years of practical experience.
- Must have valid certificates in C.P.R. and Standard First Aid.
- Previous experience in either the retail or attractions trade would be an asset.
- Must be able to maintain accurate records and be able to produce brief but concise written reports.
- Must be able to exercise discretion in the handling of confidential matters.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems, including Microsoft Office 365.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills
- Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
- Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.
