Job Overview
Elk Logistic Inc is looking for safety-focused, dependable Long Haul Truck Drivers to join our growing fleet based in Winnipeg. You will operate Class 1 tractor-trailers, hauling a range of freight (including refrigerated loads) across long distances while maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service. This role is ideal for drivers who want stable, full-time miles with a Canadian carrier that provides training, respects Hours of Service rules, and offers LMIA sponsorship to qualified international candidates.

Languages: English

Education

• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
• Equivalent education and/or experience

Experience

• Experience an asset; employer will train suitable candidates who hold the required licence and meet safety standards
• Any prior commercial driving (local, regional, or long-haul) is a strong advantage

Work Site Environment

• Driving in various weather conditions and terrains across Canada
• Dusty conditions at some loading and unloading sites (yards, terminals, industrial locations)

Work Setting / Route Type

• Long-haul trucking operations based out of Winnipeg, MB
• Long-distance routes within Manitoba and other Canadian provinces
• Extended time away from home, including overnight and multi-day trips
• Primarily solo driving with occasional convoy or coordinated runs as needed

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks (tractor-trailers, including refrigerated units) to transport goods and materials over long distances
• Plan and adjust routes based on road conditions, weather, and delivery windows using GPS and other navigation devices to optimize fuel use and reduce emissions
• Load and unload goods as required, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement in accordance with cargo securement regulations and company policies
• Tarp, strap, and otherwise secure cargo to ensure safety and security throughout the journey
• Perform thorough pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and equipment, including tires, lights, brakes, cold storage units, and other systems
• Oversee the overall condition of the vehicle, identifying defects and reporting issues promptly to maintenance or dispatch
• Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks within driver scope (e.g., checking fluid levels, minor adjustments) and coordinate scheduled maintenance as required
• Receive and relay information to and from central dispatch regarding load details, route changes, delays, and any incidents
• Record cargo information, Hours of Service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption accurately in driver logbooks and/or Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), following all regulations
• Complete and maintain documentation such as bills of lading, inspection reports, and delivery records
• Ensure refrigerated loads are kept at the correct temperature, monitoring and recording cold storage unit readings when applicable
• Provide professional, courteous service when interacting with shippers, receivers, and other partners at loading/unloading locations
• Follow all provincial and federal transportation regulations, Hours of Service rules, and company safety policies at all times
• Adhere to company procedures for incident reporting, breakdowns, and emergency situations

Credentials (Certificates, Licences, Memberships, Courses)

• Valid Driver’s Licence (Class 1 or A)
• Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi-trailer trucks)
• Air Brakes Endorsement
• Clean or acceptable driving abstract (driver’s record) as per company and insurer requirements

Experience and Specialization

• Documentation Knowledge:
  • Bill of lading
  • Driver logbook (paper and/or electronic)
  • Inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip)
• Type of Trucking and Equipment:
  • Tractor-trailer units
  • Refrigerated equipment (reefer units)
• Communication Systems Experience:
  • Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation and in-cab communication equipment

Security and Safety

• Driver’s licence validity check required
• Driving record check (abstract) required
• Must comply with drug and alcohol policies and any applicable testing requirements
• Strong commitment to road safety, cargo security, and compliance with all laws and company standards

Transportation/Travel Information

• Valid Class 1 driver’s licence required
• Willing and able to travel for extended periods, including overnight and multi-day trips within Canada
• Comfortable operating manual transmission vehicles (if required by the fleet)

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

• Long periods of sitting while driving, with frequent climbing in and out of the cab and trailer
• Physically demanding at times, particularly during loading/unloading, tarping, and cargo securement
• Repetitive tasks associated with driving, inspections, and documentation
• Handling loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs) during loading/unloading and when handling equipment (e.g., tarps, chains, load bars)
• Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain) and road conditions across different regions
• High attention to detail required for safety checks, documentation, and route planning
