Job Overview
Hercules Highway Horses is hiring Long Haul Truck Drivers to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently across long-distance routes. This role is ideal for a professional Class 1/A driver who values safety, careful equipment inspection, and strong communication with dispatch. You will operate straight or articulated trucks, plan and adjust routes using GPS and dispatch instructions, secure loads (including tarping when required), complete inspections, and maintain accurate logs of hours, distance, and fuel usage. Experience is an asset, but we welcome responsible drivers who meet licensing requirements and are committed to safe, compliant long-haul operations.

Languages: English

Education: No degree, certificate, or diploma required

Experience

  • Experience is an asset (long-haul, highway driving, flatbed or refrigerated operations)
  • Newer drivers with strong safety habits and the required credentials may be considered

Work Setting

  • Various locations and long-distance routes
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy when required by route or load requirements

Required Credentials

  • Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)
  • Air Brake (Z) Endorsement

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions using computer equipment, GPS, and navigation devices to improve efficiency, minimize fuel consumption, and reduce emissions
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch and follow dispatch instructions professionally
  • Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of vehicle condition
  • Inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage (when applicable), and other equipment to ensure roadworthiness
  • Perform brake adjustments as required and report mechanical issues promptly
  • Oversee cargo safety, including tarping, load checks, and ensuring the security of freight throughout the trip
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption accurately and on time
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant operation in accordance with company procedures and applicable transportation regulations
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy when required, coordinating safely with other drivers

Work Conditions and Expectations

  • Shift-based and long-haul work may include nights, weekends, and extended periods on the road
  • Strict adherence to Hours of Service rules and safe driving practices is mandatory
  • Ability to work independently, make good decisions on the road, and communicate clearly during route changes or delays
  • Comfort with physically active tasks such as tarping and load securement when required

Additional Assets (Preferred)

  • Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELD) and trip planning tools
  • Experience with load securement, tarping, and highway safety procedures
  • Basic mechanical awareness to identify issues early and reduce downtime
  • Clean driving record (preferred)
