Job Overview
D. A. Woods Farms Ltd. is looking for a responsible and hard-working Livestock Attendant to join our mixed livestock and poultry operation near Thamesford, Ontario. You will work hands-on with animals every day, focusing on feeding, health monitoring, barn care, and production quality. This position is ideal for someone with previous farm or livestock experience who enjoys physically active work, cares about animal welfare, and wants a stable, full-time agricultural career in a rural environment. Training on farm-specific procedures, biosecurity standards, and equipment will be provided.

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience

• 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in farming, livestock, poultry, or other animal care roles is preferred
• Experience in poultry and/or egg production is a strong asset

Work Site Environment

• Livestock and poultry operation, including poultry and egg production
• Dusty, noisy, and odorous environments typical of active barns and livestock housing
• Wet/damp conditions at times due to washing, cleaning, and watering
• Work in all weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures when moving between barns and outdoor areas

Work Setting

• Rural area near Thamesford, ON
• On-site barns, coops, pens, and associated farm facilities
• Work under the direction of farm managers or supervisors, with opportunities to work independently once trained

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

• Diagnose livestock and poultry health issues at an early stage by observing behaviour, appetite, appearance, and production levels; promptly report concerns to supervisors
• Monitor animal health on a daily basis, including checking for signs of illness, injury, or distress
• Perform livestock feeding using both manual and mechanical methods, following established feed programs
• Feed and tend animals, ensuring consistent access to clean water and appropriate nutrition
• Treat livestock and poultry health issues as directed, including administering medications, treatments, and vaccinations under farm protocols
• Vaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseases, following precise instructions and safety guidelines
• Ensure farm safety and biosecurity procedures are followed at all times, including proper use of protective clothing, disinfection practices, and movement controls between barns
• Maintain livestock performance records and quality control and production records (e.g., growth rates, mortality, egg production, feed consumption)
• Maintain accurate work records and logs as required by farm management and regulations
• Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock, and poultry, and assist in implementing control measures
• Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens, including removal of manure, soiled bedding, and debris
• Set and monitor water lines, air flow, temperature, and ventilation in barns, pens, and chicken coops to maintain optimal living conditions
• Examine products (e.g., eggs, poultry, or other livestock products) for quality and readiness for the market according to farm and industry standards
• Sort, pack, crate, and package materials and products such as eggs or other products for storage or shipment
• Perform general farm duties such as basic repairs, yard maintenance, equipment cleaning, and seasonal tasks as directed
• Assist with handling and moving animals safely and humanely between pens, barns, or transport as required

• Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching inside pens, barns, and coops
• Repetitive tasks including feeding, cleaning, sorting, and packaging
• High attention to detail to monitor animal health, equipment settings, and product quality
