Job Overview
Elk Logistic Inc is hiring Long Haul Truck Drivers based out of Winnipeg to operate tractor-trailers on extended routes, including refrigerated freight. This role is ideal for a safety-focused driver who wants steady, permanent work and is comfortable traveling overnight and for extended periods. You will plan efficient routes using GPS and dispatch information, complete thorough inspections, secure loads properly (including tarping when required), maintain accurate logs and shipping documents, and represent the company professionally on the road and at customer sites. Training is available for candidates who meet licensing requirements and demonstrate strong reliability, safe driving habits, and willingness to learn company procedures.
Languages: English
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Will train (commercial driving experience is an asset)
Work Site Environment: Dusty conditions may occur at certain yards, docks, or customer locations
Credentials (Required)
- Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)
- Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi trailer trucks)
- Air Brakes Endorsement

Communication Systems Experience
- Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment
- Communicate with central dispatch using phone/radio or electronic systems as required
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently
- Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions using computer equipment, GPS, and other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch; follow dispatch instructions and provide timely updates
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption accurately
- Load and unload goods when required and ensure freight is handled safely to prevent damage
- Tarp loads and ensure safety and security of cargo, using proper tie-down and securement practices
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of the vehicle
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, refrigeration/cold storage systems, and other equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and basic checks; report mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately
- Maintain professionalism with customers, dock staff, and the public and follow company and regulatory requirements at all times
Security and Safety Requirements
- Driver’s validity licence check required
- Driving record check (abstract) required
- Must follow safety procedures, traffic laws, and hours-of-service regulations consistently
Transportation / Travel Requirements
- Valid driver’s licence required
- Willing to travel for extended periods
- Willing to travel overnight
- Ability to meet delivery windows and adapt to route changes, weather, and traffic conditions
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Attention to detail required for inspections, documentation, load securement, and safe driving
- Physically demanding tasks may include tarping, load checks, and handling freight
- Repetitive tasks and long periods of sitting while driving
- Weight handling up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
