As Risk and Control Director, you’ll join a dynamic team committed to creating a world-class risk management culture. You will lead our Risk & Controls Discipline (RCD) and collaborate with Product squads to implement innovative risk strategies, support our rapid growth, and ensure Monzo remains a trusted, compliant, and customer-focused organization. Your Role and Responsibilities
As Risk and Control Director, you will:

• Lead the Product RCD squads, partnering with Retail, Business Banking, and Wealth product teams.
• Oversee marketing controls and Financial Promotions reviews, ensuring ongoing compliance with the Consumer Duty.
• Drive a data-led approach to product design, ensuring delivery of good customer outcomes.
• Partner with senior leaders, including the Chief Product Officer and VP of Marketing, to manage risk topics.
• Monitor control design, test effectiveness, and support the implementation of updated frameworks.
• Build a forward-looking, AI-driven control environment, fostering a data-first culture.
• Enable fast, safe shipping of product changes by supporting risk assessments and processes.
• Support Monzo’s growth into new markets, products, and regulatory jurisdictions.

Skills and Knowledge Needed

• Are an exceptional risk/control professional with UK banking, fintech, or financial services experience.
• Have a proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and solving complex risk problems.
• Bring hands-on experience managing product risk and growing new businesses “in control.”
• Are a data-driven control leader, comfortable with technology and automation.
• Thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments, delivering and executing effectively.
• Exhibit curiosity, collaboration, and incisive problem-solving skills.
• Have experience in scaling environments, deploying AI, or working at a fintech/challenger bank (a plus).

Education and Certification Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related field (required).
• Certifications such as IRM Certificate/Diploma, PRMIA-PRM, or equivalent (preferred).
• Demonstrable knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks and UK regulatory standards.
