Join North American Construction Group (NACG) as a Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (off-road) at our remote mining site in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Position Scope

• Site: Suncor Top Shop
• Schedule: 14×14 rotation, 12-hour shifts (paid for 11.5 hours), including days and nights.
• Accommodations: $15/hour Living Out Allowance (camp not provided).
• Transportation: complimentary bussing from Fort McMurray to the site before and after shifts.
• Overtime: Earn overtime after 8 hours/day or 44 hours/week.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi heavy equipment.
• Troubleshoot systems, including hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components.
• Conduct equipment inspections, performance evaluations, and preventive maintenance.
• Mobilize equipment for repair and develop repair scopes and schedules.
• Mentor apprentices and collaborate with peers in maintenance and operations teams.
• Maintain adherence to NACG’s Safe Operating Procedures and codes of practice.

Specific Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience post-Journeyman certification working on large haul trucks, dozers, graders, and excavators.
• Alberta Journeyman (Off-Road) Certificate or Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification required.
• Diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise.
• Ability to work independently with strong leadership and communication skills.
• Experience on safety-sensitive sites and knowledge of Cat SIS systems is an asset.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Subject to pre-employment testing, including:
  • Breath alcohol and urine drug tests.
• Fitness-to-work assessment.
• Audiometric and vision screening.
• Criminal record check.

Education and Certification

• Journeyperson certification in Heavy Equipment Technology (Off-Road).
• Red Seal certification is preferred.
• Additional training in safety procedures and equipment diagnostics is beneficial.
