Job Overview
Brunos Contracting (Thunder Bay) Limited is seeking reliable and hardworking Construction Labourers to support roadwork, civil, and infrastructure projects throughout the Thunder Bay region. As a Construction Labourer, you will work outdoors in a fast-paced environment, assisting skilled operators and trades by moving materials, preparing work areas, operating basic equipment, and keeping job sites clean and safe. This role is ideal for individuals who are physically fit, enjoy working with their hands in all weather conditions, and want to gain valuable experience with a reputable heavy civil contractor. Seasonal full-time work offers strong hours during the construction season and the opportunity to return in future seasons based on performance and company needs.

  • 7 months to less than 1 year of experience in construction labour, roadwork, landscaping, or other physically demanding outdoor work is preferred
  • Employer will provide on-the-job training for specific tasks, equipment, and safety procedures

Work Setting

  • Various construction sites in and around Thunder Bay, ON
  • Civil and road construction, infrastructure, and related projects
  • Outdoor work environment exposed to changing weather conditions
  • Work under the direction of site supervisors, forepersons, and equipment operators

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment around the job site
  • Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt according to instructions
  • Level earth and base materials to fine grade specifications using hand tools and basic equipment
  • Assist with preparation of work areas for pouring concrete, laying asphalt, or installing structures
  • Remove rubble, broken concrete, asphalt, and other debris at construction sites to keep work areas safe and organized
  • Direct traffic at or near construction sites as required, following safety procedures and using appropriate signage and signals
  • Perform general labouring duties such as shovelling, raking, sweeping, and assisting trades and operators
  • Operate machinery and small equipment (after training) such as compactors, jackhammers, and other hand-held tools
  • Assist in setting up and taking down barricades, safety fencing, and signage
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and experienced crew members to support efficient project completion
  • Report any hazards, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean, good working order after use

Experience and Specialization

  • Equipment and Machinery Experience (training can be provided):
    • Concrete vibrators
    • Jackhammers
    • Compactor
    • Other small construction tools and equipment as needed

Additional Requirements / Assets

  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation to reach various job sites is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment operation is an advantage
  • Safety certifications such as WHMIS, Working at Heights, or basic construction safety training are assets (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions and basic site signage
