Job Overview
A caring and reliable Personal Support Worker is needed to provide one-on-one in-home support to an individual with physical disabilities in Thornhill, Ontario. This is a long-term, full-time role for someone who genuinely enjoys helping others maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life in their own home. You will provide personal care, companionship, and light household support in a non-smoking environment, becoming a trusted part of the client’s daily routine. This position is ideal for candidates who prefer stable, consistent work with one client rather than rotating facility shifts, and who are seeking a meaningful caregiving role in a private home setting. LMIA sponsorship is available for the right international candidate already in Canada or eligible to come to Canada.

- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
- Equivalent experience
Experience
- 1 to less than 7 months of related experience (e.g., caregiver, PSW assistant, home support worker, nursing aide), or a combination of paid and unpaid experience caring for persons with physical limitations
- Employer will provide guidance and orientation to specific client needs
Work Site Environment
- Non-smoking home
- Private residence in Thornhill, ON
Work Setting
- Client’s home (home support, not a facility)
- In-person work only; no remote work
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Administer bedside and personal care according to the client’s needs and care plan
- Assist client with bathing, showering, grooming, and other aspects of personal hygiene while maintaining dignity and privacy
- Feed or assist in feeding, ensuring safe swallowing and respect for dietary preferences and restrictions
- Provide personal care such as dressing, toileting, and mobility assistance (transfers, positioning, helping with wheelchair, etc.)
- Provide companionship, conversation, emotional support, and encouragement to reduce isolation
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks, taking into account any dietary guidelines or health conditions
- Shop for food and household supplies as requested, following budgets and lists
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties (tidying, dusting, dishes, light laundry, wiping surfaces, organizing common areas)
- Launder clothing and household linens; fold, organize, and store them appropriately
- Observe and report any changes in the client’s physical or emotional condition to the employer or designated family member
- Help coordinate and follow daily routines (medication reminders as instructed by the family, rest periods, meals, activities)
- Maintain a safe and orderly home environment, promptly addressing potential hazards
- Respect the client’s privacy, preferences, cultural background, and household rules

- References from previous caregiving or employment roles may be requested and verified
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Ability to safely lift, move, and support up to 23 kg (50 lbs) when assisting with transfers, repositioning, or mobility aids
- Periods of standing, walking, bending, and assisting with physical tasks
- Repetitive tasks related to personal care and light housekeeping
- Need for attention to detail in following care instructions, maintaining hygiene, and documenting or reporting changes
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently, even when the client’s needs are urgent or routines change unexpectedly
