Job Overview
John Silvester is seeking a caring, reliable Nanny to provide consistent in-home childcare in Oakville, Ontario, including support for a child with special needs (autism). This role is ideal for someone who is patient, organized, and confident creating calm routines that support a child’s emotional well-being, social development, and daily structure. You will supervise and care for children, organize activities, assist with hygiene and homework, provide safe transportation to school and appointments, and handle light housekeeping related to the children. Optional live-in accommodation is available at no charge, but it is not a condition of employment. Experience
- 1 to less than 7 months of relevant childcare experience (private home, nannying, babysitting, daycare support, or similar)
- Experience with special needs children, including autistic children, is a strong asset
Work Setting

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Supervise and care for children, ensuring safety, engagement, and supportive routines
- Tend to the emotional well-being of children through calm communication, reassurance, and positive guidance
- Discipline children according to the methods requested by the parents, using consistent and respectful approaches
- Instruct children in personal hygiene and social development, supporting independence and appropriate behaviour
- Help children with homework and support learning through reading and structured activities
- Organize activities such as games and outings appropriate to the child’s age, interests, and needs
- Take children to and from school and to appointments, following agreed schedules and safety practices
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home, including child-proofing awareness and tidy child spaces
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to childcare (tidying play areas, cleaning up after activities/meals)
- Assume full responsibility for the household in the absence of parents, following routines and instructions provided
Special Needs Support (Autism) Expectations
- Provide consistent structure and predictable routines
- Use patient, supportive communication and de-escalation strategies when needed
- Work closely with parents to follow preferred approaches and any therapy/learning routines in place
- Observe and document relevant daily notes (behaviour patterns, triggers, progress, routines) if requested
Security and Safety
- Criminal record check required

- Public transportation is available
- Travel expenses paid by employer (as applicable to job duties)

- Good judgement and safety awareness in a home and community setting
- Flexible and adaptable to changing needs, appointments, and routines
- Initiative to plan activities and proactively support a smooth household routine
Additional Assets (Preferred)
- First Aid/CPR certification (asset)
- Experience with behaviour support, sensory-friendly routines, or special needs caregiving (asset)
- Valid driver’s license (asset if driving is required for school/appointments)
