Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Patient Care Specialist at Canadian Heart Care. The Patient Care Specialist will be responsible for providing direct patient care, including communicating with patients, utilizing medical terminology, and administering medicine.
The role requires working closely with the healthcare team to ensure the well-being of patients and optimize their cardiac care experience.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements :
- Coordinates patient care through the clinic : Scheduling of patient appointments, checking in, gathering patient demographics, answering questions providing post-appointment follow up, and monitoring the waiting room.
- Accepts and processes calls from patients, doctor’s offices, labs, insurance companies, pharmacies, hospitals / urgent care centers and diagnostic centers.
- Completes necessary phone triage follow through events and documentation.
Assists physician in communicating with patients and other health professional - Answers inquiries by phone and in person in a helpful, respectful and efficient manner.
Maintains appointment schedule and manages rescheduling - Maintains electronic medical record, performs tasks (including filing testing, uploading faxes, and filing, and booking referrals) in support of patient care
- Ensures patient confidentiality
- Assists physicians when requested
- Filling of investigative findings in the patient EMR
- Performs all other related clinical, administrative tasks or special tasks as required
- Answering phone calls to the office from patients
- Greet patients, and assist with rooming, as needed
- Triaging and scheduling appointments
- Scanning and posting labs / medical reports into charts
- Communicating with other health care providers
- Processing Referrals to consultants, as well as following up on other diagnostic tests
- Updating and managing information in patient charts
- Some billing may be required
- Additional responsibilities maybe added
Qualifications
- Highschool diploma
- Certificate or Diploma in Medical Office Administration or equivalent is preferred but not required
- 1-2 years of experience in a medical office or receptionist role
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with medical software systems and terminology
- Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with patients and staff alike
- Knowledge of medical billing practices and insurance policies is an asset
- Fluent in English; fluency in other languages is an asset
- CPR and First Aid certification is an asset
