Language Requirements
• French proficiency required for workplace communication and safety
• Ability to read, write, and speak French for clients, contractors, and team
• Technical reading comprehension for French blueprints and specifications
• Professional communication representing company to customers
• Safety communication with crew and other trades
• English language skills considered an asset
Education Requirements
• Trades certificate or diploma in plumbing required
• Completion of plumbing apprenticeship program
• Journeyperson Plumber certification
• Red Seal certification considered a strong asset
• Continuing education in plumbing codes and technologies beneficial
Experience Requirements
• 2 years to less than 3 years of licensed plumber experience required
• Residential, commercial, or industrial plumbing experience
• New construction and renovation experience
• Service and repair experience beneficial
• Blueprint reading and installation planning experience
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of team
Required Credentials and Certifications
• Valid Plumber Trade Certification (Journeyperson) – Mandatory
• Quebec plumbing license or ability to obtain interprovincial endorsement
• Current knowledge of Quebec Plumbing Code (Code de plomberie du Québec)
• Red Seal certification preferred
• Driver’s license required for traveling to job sites
• First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset
• Confined space and fall protection training beneficial
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Blueprint Reading:
• Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system
• Interpret water supply network plans and specifications
• Understand waste and drainage system designs
• Plan installation sequences and material requirements
• Coordinate plumbing work with other trades
• Identify and resolve conflicts between plans and site conditions
• Follow engineer specifications and building codes precisely
Installation and Layout:
• Locate and mark positions for pipe connections accurately
• Mark passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors
• Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
• Install domestic, commercial, and industrial plumbing fixtures and systems
• Install water supply networks and distribution systems
• Install waste and drainage systems according to code
• Set up bathroom fixtures, sinks, and plumbing appliances
• Install water heaters, pumps, and pressure systems
Pipe Work and Fabrication:
• Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipes using hand and power tools or machines
• Work with various pipe materials including copper, PVC, PEX, and steel
• Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, and cement
• Solder, braze, and weld pipe joints when required
• Create custom pipe configurations and fittings
• Ensure proper pipe slopes for drainage systems
• Install supports, hangers, and brackets for piping
• Insulate pipes where necessary
Repair and Maintenance:
• Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems
• Diagnose plumbing problems and leaks
• Replace defective components and piping
• Service water heaters and plumbing equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing systems
• Respond to service calls and emergency repairs
• Troubleshoot complex plumbing issues
Testing and Quality Control:
• Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges
• Verify system pressure and flow rates
• Ensure all installations meet code requirements
• Conduct final inspections before closing walls
• Commission plumbing systems after installation
• Document testing results and compliance
Estimation and Project Management:
• May prepare cost estimates for plumbing projects
• Calculate material quantities and labor requirements
• Order materials and supplies for jobs
• Manage project timelines and milestones
• Track costs and ensure projects stay within budget
• Communicate with clients about project progress
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
• Physically demanding work requiring strength and stamina
• Working in various weather conditions on construction sites
• Confined spaces including crawl spaces, basements, and mechanical rooms
• Working at heights on ladders and scaffolding
• Bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching in tight spaces
• Lifting and carrying materials and equipment up to 50 lbs
• Standing and walking throughout shifts
• Working in cold environments when necessary
