Job Overview
Résidence Cardinal-Vachon is seeking a courteous and reliable Counter Attendant to join its food service team in a retirement and care home setting in Québec City. You will help ensure residents and visitors receive meals in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by setting tables, serving at counters and buffets, preparing simple food items, and keeping service areas well-stocked and spotless. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with seniors, is comfortable in a health-care or retirement home setting, and wants a stable, full-time position in an urban, non-smoking environment.

Education
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience
- 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in food service, restaurant, cafeteria, or a similar environment

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Bring clean dishes, flatware, and other items to serving areas and set tables in dining rooms and service areas
- Carry and replace linen (tablecloths, napkins) as needed to maintain a clean and pleasant dining environment
- Clear and clean tables, trays, and chairs promptly between meal services
- Load buspans and trays with used dishes and cutlery and transport them to dishwashing areas
- Prepare, heat, and finish simple food items (e.g., soups, side dishes, desserts, light meals) according to instructions and standards
- Serve customers, residents, and staff at counters or buffet tables in a courteous and efficient manner
- Take customers’ and residents’ orders at the counter, ensuring clarity and accuracy
- Stock refrigerators, salad bars, and service stations with food, condiments, beverages, and supplies throughout shifts
- Receive, unpack, and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, and other storage areas while following stock rotation (first in, first out)
- Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruit for salads, sides, and prepared dishes
- Operate food dispensers and other basic food service equipment safely and correctly
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in serving areas, counters, and dining rooms
- Follow all health, safety, and food handling regulations and internal policies
Experience and Specialization
- Equipment and machinery experience:
- Food dispensers
- Experience in institutional or healthcare/retirement home food service is an asset
Security and Safety
- References required and will be verified
- Compliance with all facility infection prevention and control policies
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Fast-paced environment, particularly during meal rushes and peak service times
- Repetitive tasks such as setting tables, loading trays, and wiping surfaces
- Standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift
- Tight deadlines to ensure meals and services are delivered on time
- Work under pressure while maintaining a calm, professional manner
- Attention to detail when setting tables, preparing simple foods, and following diets or portion guidelines
- Ability to work independently when needed, while still contributing to a team
- Frequent lifting and carrying of light to moderate loads (trays, food containers, boxes of supplies)
