Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years in childcare, with specific experience in newborn and infant care preferred

Target Audience

• Newborn (including supporting expecting mother)

Responsibilities

• Assume full responsibility for household in absence of parents
• Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to childcare
• Discipline children according to the methods requested by the parents
• Instruct children in personal hygiene and social development
• Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home
• Organize activities such as games, tummy time, and age-appropriate outings
• Prepare and serve nutritious meals and bottles for infants
• Supervise and care for children with attentiveness and love
• Tend to emotional well-being of children
• Provide specialized newborn care including feeding, diapering, and soothing
• Establish healthy sleep routines and schedules for infants
• Monitor newborn development and report any concerns to parents
• Support breastfeeding or bottle-feeding as directed by parents
• Bathe and groom newborns and infants safely
• Prepare nursery and maintain cleanliness of baby’s environment
• Sterilize bottles, pacifiers, and feeding equipment
• Assist with laundry related to baby and children’s needs
• Provide support and assistance to new parents during adjustment period
• Accompany family to pediatric appointments when needed
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding baby’s progress and milestones
• Create a calm, nurturing, and stimulating environment for infant development
• Follow safe sleep practices and infant care guidelines

Credentials (Preferred)

• CPR and First Aid certification (infant/child CPR preferred)
• Early Childhood Education certificate (an asset)
• Newborn care specialist training (an asset)
• Infant development knowledge
• Valid driver’s license (an asset)

Security and Safety Requirements

• Criminal record check required
• References required (particularly from families with newborn experience)
• Vulnerable sector check may be required
• Current immunizations recommended
